Pet owners, at one time or another would witness the dog throwing up. The retching sound being made by a vomiting dog can make an owner vault as often times the pet would choose to upchuck the contents of the stomach on the carpet. It would really be very annoying if the dog would not finish throwing up in one place but would transfer to another to deposit another heap of vomit. In times like this wouldnt you want to vanish the dog to Neverland?
Considering the dietary indiscretion of our four legged friends, it would not be surprising to see them throwing up. Dogs would eat anything¦edible and non-edible. Naturally, the dogs system will expulse objects that are not supposed to be in the dogs stomach. Vomiting is natures way of removing the offending objects. Dogs have gargantuan appetites. Fill the doggie bowl and the food will be gone in an instant. The dogs habit of gulping down food will result to vomiting if the dry food that fills the stomach absorbs moisture and expands. There are two kinds of vomiting chronic and acute. Dog owners need not worry about the sudden onset of vomiting as long as the dog exhibits a normal level of energy and has not lost the eagerness for food. Generally, acute vomiting is not life threatening. The dog would throw up once to rid the stomach of the offending foreign body and after a while the pet would be its usual energetic self and would be seen once again munching non-food items. However, there are instances when acute vomiting would need immediate medical attention. Dogs have a curious personality. This curiosity may led to poisoning or a blockage in the intestinal tract. Prompt medical attention must be given to the vomiting dog.
A seemingly healthy dog that has recurring bouts of vomiting may have an underlying medical condition. Chronic vomiting can be caused by distemper, parvovirus or by intestinal parasite infestation. Allergies, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease are other causes of chronic vomiting. Medical attention is mandatory for dogs with chronic vomiting as poor digestion can hamper the absorption of nutrients resulting not only to low energy level but also to poor physical appearance. Although occasional vomiting is normal in dogs, pet owners have to be observant¦ to know if the dog needs medical attention as throwing up may not be due to overeating but to life threatening concern.
