Getting a New Dog – Do I Need an Outdoor Kennel

I am about to get a staffie and I want to have the dog living in the house, full time so it is part of the family and will not get jealous of any future children we have.

I do not want to get an outside kennel as I do not believe in them, I beleive a dog is part of a family and therefore my home is his home. i have however had advice that it is best to have an outdoor kennel which is his domain and indeed he may be happier with this and i wanted to get a professional take on this.

I want to ensure that my Staffie has a great temprement and do not want to breed jealousy in the dog – any advice welcomed!!

  1. you have been advised wrong and i hope this advice hasnt come too late!!

having a dog as part of your family pack is vital but you have to be there to correct any unwanted behaviour and assert yourself as pack leader there is no let up you have to be pack leader 24/7!
a dog who believes he is a follower will never challenge you or your children and never become aggressive!
a good book to read is anything by Cesar Millan but you have to feel it inside yourself be confident and asserive whenever you are with the dog especially on a walk!
the best time to walk is first thing in the morning and the first contact you have with the dog.. walk assertivley and confidently without deviation when you arrive home leave it at least 20 mins and then feed. make sure the dog always respects your space and make the dog wait.

i hope this helps and hasn’t come too late
